All this month “bobsfreeblog” will focus on a fundraising event mounted by a local/regional organization that has, for many years, been an important part of my adult life. The Spina Bifida Resource Network serves families and individuals (like myself) who are affected by spina bifida. This organization encompasses all of New Jersey and the greater New York metropolitan area. Spina bifida is the most common birth defect in the US. It is a neural tube defect that results in incomplete closure of the spine at birth. Everyone of us living with this condition is affected differently, but vast improvements in medical technology and greater access to information about this disability has resulted in citizens with spina bifida living fruitful lives of fulfillment and great accomplishment.
“The SBRN”, by continually providing information, program funding and innovative event planning, seeks to help build a better, more dynamic environment for people with disabilities. Those of you who have glanced at this blog know how thrilled I was to be featured in a personality profile in our organization’s newsletter. This evening, I am calling on everyone who finds themselves within reach of my content, via blog, Facebook and/or Twitter, etc. to lend a hand with the upcoming Walk for Empowerment, to be held this June 5th. By clicking on the link at the bottom of this blog entry you will gain access to a donor page which will allow you to select a fundraising team in the event. You can donate as little or as much as you like, as often as you like. NOTE (revised 5/10/11): I have created my own fundraising team for our event so that now supporters can more easily submit a donation by clicking on the link at the end of this blog entry.
These are exciting times for those of us involved with SBRN who seek to maintain the succes level of our Walk for Empowerment event. I truly appreciate your reading of this blog and am grateful for your support of our June 5th walk.
