Some good news If you’re looking for a nice beverage to pair with whatever you’re snacking on as you enjoy what’s left of your “March Madness” pool. Although a nice Australian shiraz combines well with your grillin’, chillin’, and hoops watchin’, there’s really no need to hop a couple of continents or even an ocean or two to enjoy a uniquely fine bottle, such as the white I sampled over the weekend:
Perhaps you could head on over to a wine shop in Vienna or Salzburg for a nice Austrian Grüner Veltliner. Or if you’re not lucky enough to have it as your latest wine club selection, then seek it out at your own favorite fine beverage outlet.
Grüner Veltliner is my second go-round with an Austrian wine, the first being a very decent red Zweigelt. But this bottle of Grüner Veltliner I really enjoyed with shrimp dinner one night, and chicken parmesan the next. Earthy, mineral taste elements allow a chilled glass to retain more body and character as it warms up a bit closer to room temperature. A nice departure from a basic sauvignon blanc, or even an overly sweet pinot grigio. To mitigate bad feelings over your busted brackets you might give it a try mate. Hehehe.
